We've wanted to do a book that focuses on a single year, well, for years now. After plotting and planning only to get waylaid by other ideas and projects, we found ourselves four years into the 40th anniversary of the movies released in the 1980s. How could we possibly keep putting off creating a love letter to the movies we grew up on? The movies we saw in theaters on opening night? The movies we rented at the local video store? We have finally come to our senses and put together, perhaps, an over-the-top tribute to the movies of 1984!
But we quickly realized this project wasn't feasible as a single book. We wanted to cover the films and allow our contributing writers the space to write about their favorite movies released that year. Still, we also wanted to share the fantastic movie marketing material of 1984 we have collected over the years.
Because we strive to keep our books affordable, dividing the project into two books made sense. This would allow you, the reader, to decide which book(s) you want to buy instead of forcing a sixty-dollar book at a time when we are all checking the dollars we spend on necessities and have even less expendable cash than we did just a year ago to spend on stuff we want to add to our collections.
Hence, we present It Came From Hollywood Book 6: The Movies of 1984, and It Came From Hollywood: Colossal! 1984.
It Came From Hollywood Book 6: The Movies of 1984 ($19.99)
The book covers the cinematic landscape of 40 years ago! This special theme edition celebrates all the films of 1984, big and small, that graced theater screens and video rental stores. It Came From Hollywood: Colossal! 1984 ($19.99)
Colossal! 1984 showcases the magnificent movie marketing of a massive year in motion picture history. As movie-goers, we were not only overwhelmed by television and radio advertising for these films but also treated to all kinds of ads in fan magazines and trade publications. Colossal! 1984 attempts to capture the energy and excitement of the era with a bold layout and an '80s color scheme that will certainly jog the senses. The collection contains posters, lobby cards, key artwork, and trade advertising for movies released that year, including what we were watching on cable TV and renting at the local video store. Colossal! 1984 is a time machine that takes you back, page by page, to revisit your favorite films from forty years ago. 80-pages, in eye-popping color!
