Movie showmanship and promotion are ALIVE and doing very well. In our current overtly political world, where we are told via social media and all manners of news channels that the norm will be dictated by its governing bodies, in Huntsville, they are turning new generations on to crazy films from decades long gone, and they are doing it one screening at a time. And the public is loving it!
Local public radio station WLRH recently devoted a segment of air time called Arts Underground to address this phenomenon within its boundaries. The resulting 35-minute podcast should make the rest of us movie buffs feel at ease. There are "others" like us, all over the country, who appreciate cinema and are passionate about showing it.
This episode features KB of KBS VHS, Josh Jossey of Schlockbuster Presents, and ICFH alumni Rob Freese, who curates The Mad-Movie-A-Thon-A-Rama. They each host film screenings in Huntsville and Madison, respectively. They share with us how they turned their passions into community events, their takes on the importance of watching movies with others in a theater, their processes on selecting films to screen, and more.
